What is Koncium?

Koncium (kawn-see-um) is a term that we have created from the Latin words for consciousness and awareness. These have been adapted in light of 17th century philosopher Rene Descartes to result in what we mean by the word Koncium:

Koncium represents a reflective state of mind where one is fully conscious and aware of their thoughts, emotions, and actions. It is a process of knowing ourselves and understanding our behaviours in order to free us to be able to reach our potential as performers and people.

At Koncium it is our utmost belief that developing excellence in performance and life starts and ends with your commitment to being aware of what you are thinking, how you are feeling, and understanding why you do what you do!

Our Team.

Our Canadian-based team consists of highly training mental performance consultants (MPC’s) and interning student-consultants who have studied sport psychology extensively at the graduate school level are current Professional Members of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association or are working towards such membership status.

While we are predominantly based in the Ottawa-Gainteau area, we are constantly seeking to expand our reach  throughout the world through partnerships, as well as the option for online Skype sessions between clients of all levels and our trained MPCs.

Philosophy:
I specialize in assisting athletes and other performers in achieving personal excellence through a collaborative process where we will emphasize the development of mental skills applicable to sport and life. In essence, I train individuals to use psychology as a way to develop their ‘mental game’ and improve their overall performance (and competitive) outcomes. Although a lot of my work is centered on sport and athletics, the reality is that sport is simply one avenue through which I train my clients in a variety of skills that will aid them in life more generally.

My consulting style further reflects an eclectic and integrative approach where the overarching theoretical framework resembles a cognitive-behavioural (CBT) orientation with significant application of third-wave cognitive-behavioural strategies. Many additional aspects of my work involves various theoretical and practical contributions from such psychological approaches as behavioral, solution-focused, Gestalt, and Rogerian.
